Further information
What is the FE/EIT Exam?
The Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (previously named the Engineer in Training Exam) is the first official step of the path to professional engineering licensure. A second exam follows after some years of experience working as an engineer. The FE Exam is composed of a 4-hour, 120 question multiple choice general-subject morning session, followed by a 1-hour break, then a 4-hour, 60 questions multiple choice general-subject or discipline-specific (civil, environmental, chemical, electrical, mechanical and industrial) afternoon session.
For more information about the exam and engineering licensure, go to the exam page of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying at http://www.ncees.org/exams/fundamentals/.
When is the Exam?
The FE/EIT Exam is given twice a year, in April and in October. The next administration of the Exam will be Saturday, April 12th, 2008.
How Do I Register?
The registration is a two step process:
Please follow the instructions on the ELSES website:
https://commerce.ncees.org/elses/state_info.php?state=Arizona
How Do I Prepare?
The exam is comprehensive and covers all and more subjects studied. It is recommended to review familiar subjects. It is no problem to pass the exam knowing most subjects well and ignoring the unfamiliar ones.
Several publications are available to help getting familiar with the type of questions and the range of subjects. It is definitely advisable to get a good look at the FE Supplied-Reference Handbook which is the only reference available during the test Reference Handbook @ NCEES.
ASCE and/or Chi Epsilon may organize FE preparation sessions with ASU professors. Please check back here for more information.
It is definitely worth doing a 4 hour non-stop study session on your own to check your stamina!
Only specific calculators are allowed to the exam. Please check with allowed calculator models for the right models. Get familiar with the new calculator early. You cannot bring the manual to the exam.
Here are some great websites for reviewing for the FE Exam:
1. This site has taped review sessions with notes for all the general and civil engineering EIT sections (these sessions are a lot more thorough than the ones we give):

2. This site has numerous practice problems and an example test you can take:
