RESEARCH IN PROGRESS

FIATECH Developing Teaching Core Technology Competencies- Identify unique post secondary educational institutions’ programs and catalog instructional techniques used to teach design and construction technology. By identifying innovative and successful industry and academic programs that currently exist, these programs can be used to assist and expand the technology enabling efforts throughout the construction and engineering industry. This project aims at achieving a better, more highly trained, technology-educated workforce since the engineering and construction industry is experiencing a severe shortage of qualified personnel. This project will seek to discover successful programs that bridge the knowledge sharing of industry needs with the course offerings in academia.

FIATECH Intelligent Building Roadmap – Develop an Intelligent Building Directory. Future capital facilities will be programmed, designed and constructed to be an intelligent integrated system of systems. These intelligent systems will utilize the data flow from self monitored equipment and systems to manage the actions necessary to ensure conditions and performance necessary to enable safe, secure and continuously optimized facility operations. Facility systems will be integrated to utilize data to automatically and autonomously activate built-in mechanisms to perform required maintenance and/or repair functions.

ITRS Roadmap – Develop a Facility model to determine the technical requirements for factories of the future linking the future technologies with the infrastructure to support improved manufacturing as part of the Facilities Working Group in support of the Factory Integration Chapter as part of the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS)

GIS and GPS Utility Locating – Research new ways to more accurately record and track underground utilities, which would allow for fewer accidents due to the more accurate knowledge of where the utilities actual are at.

Design for Facilities – Develop a SEMI (Semiconductor Equipment Manufactures International) Guideline for interfacing production equipment and facility support systems to make the production equipment designers aware of the issues and the impact of tool design decisions on the facility and facility infrastructure. Proper equipment design will ultimately reduce facility related costs and environmental impact of the tool and facility.
