Homework # 2

Due: Monday, 9 February, 2008

Problem statement: Send an introduction email to con251@asu.edu and attach in MS Word format your Résumé for the year you are graduating, as well as a  1"x1" color passport picture of yours (when displayed on screen) in JPG format.

Requirements:

1. Email

• Your message should have the subject: CON 251 9:15 Resume or CON 251 10:40 Resume or CON 251 3:15 Resume or CON 251 Online Resume, as appropriate
• You should use your own email address as sender address.
• Specify how you would prefer to be called by the professor.
• Specify your current academic standing (sophomore, junior, senior).
• Specify the sources of professional news you plan to subscribe to by the time you graduate.
• Specify your personal hobbies
• The email message should also contain a list of the best two WWW sites you have seen and the worst two WWW sites you have seen. For each listed site provide a short explanation of why do you think the site is good or bad. Your rating should consider only the organization of the sites and ease of access to information. Your preference for the subject should not play any role in your rating.
• You have to sign the message using your name and email.

2. Resume

. The resume should contain at least the following:

• Letterhead (in the header) containing your name, address, phone and email
• One paragraph for each job you had. If you did not have any job yet the paragraph should be about the professional accomplishment you are (or will be) most proud of. The jobs should be presented in in reverse chronological order. For each job include the following:
  • Dates, title and company - Bold and underlined for easy identification. Dates include months and years, followed by a colon. This part ends with a dash.
  • Core responsibilities: 2-4 sentences. ideally would come from your job descriptions, but you may need to create them yourself. Always start with an action verb!
  • Accomplishments - bulleted list – at least one per responsibility.  Each accomplishment starts with an action verb: achieved, ranked (2nd, fifth), reduced, increased, noted for, recognized…[Exception: First. Example: First man on the Moon]. Bullets flush to the left, try to fit in one line.

         The résumé is restricted to ONE page.

3. JPG file

• 100x100 pixels at 100 dpi resolution.
• Passport picture cropped to show your face in the center - no shoulders
• JPG format

Submission: The homework will be submitted through email with two attachments (.DOCX and JPG files) to con251@asu.edu. The name of the attached files should follow the file name convention of this class. Your email message has to reach the con251@asu.edu no later than one minute before the lecture starts. Send a copy of the email message to yourself and keep the copy in your mailbox until the homework is graded. Your copy will serve as proof of submission. There is NO paper submission for this homework.

Grading: The homework worth 100 points. 5 points will be deducted for failing to comply with each of the requirements above.
