PhD: Washington State University, 1987
Dr. Kiaei has been with ASU since January 2001. He is currently a professor and Director of both WINTech and Connection One. WINTech is a comprehensive research center for Arizona State University researchers and established industry partners to do advanced work on enabling technology needed in the development of fully autonomous nanoscale communication devices and systems. Connection One, a National Science Foundation research center focused on Communication Circuits and Systems, at Arizona State University, is focused on simplifying and enabling a small portable all in one communication device.
From 1993 to 2001, Dr. Kiaei was a senior member of technical staff with the Wireless Technology Center and Broadband Operations at Motorola where he was responsible for the development of wireless transceiver ICs and Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL) transceivers. During this period, he developed several integrated circuits for DSL transceiver, two way radios, GPS receiver, and Bluetooth transceivers.
Before joining Motorola, Dr. Kiaei was an associate professor at Oregon State University from 1987 to 1993 where he taught courses and performed research in digital communications, VLSI system design, advanced CMOS IC design, and wireless systems. Dr. Kiaei assisted in the establishment of the industry university Center for the Design of Analog/Digital ICs (CDADIC) and served as its co director for 10 years.
Dr. Kiaei has published over 100 journal and conference papers and holds several patents. He is an IEEE fellow and a member of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, the IEEE Solid State Circuits Society, and the IEEE Communication Society.
Additional Professional Activities
Dr. Kiaei was on the executive board of the RFIC symposium and general chairman of the RFIC 2002 Symposium, Technical program chair for the International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS 2002), technical program chair for RFIC2001, associate editor for IEEE Transactions on VLSI, and is on the technical program Circuits, Systems, Low Power Symposium, and various other conferences.
Dr. Kiaei currently has over 12 PhD and MS students working on various RIF and mix signal IC's. In addition, he funding from DARPA (Defense Advance Research Project Agency), JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratories), Motorola Inc., Texas Instruments, Intel Corp., Philips, and other industries.
Research Interests: Wireless transceiver design, RIF and Mixed Signal ICs.
Honors and Distinctions: Carter Best Teacher Award, IEEE Darlington Best Paper Award; IEEE Fellow, Motorola 1OX Design Award.
