NETWORK MANAGEMENT SYSTEM - A JAVA/WEB APPROACH
Network Management has become increasingly complex and challenging due to the unprecedented growth in size and heterogeneous nature of todays computer and telecommunication networks. In this paper, we propose a new network management architecture based on Java and Web technology which provides a portable, multithreaded, object oriented, distributed and platform independent environment. The Java enabled browser at the Network Management System (NMS) monitors and controls the agents using the Java classes(bytecode) to transfer commands and data. Hierarchical navigation of management information at any managed node is in the form of links. The agent is a virtual Java engine which performs the management functions on a network element. Intelligent Java agent implementation in a heterogeneous distributed environment is discussed. Extensible agent, added security, inter-agent communication and automatic configuration of NMS and agents are among the key enhancements achieved by using the Java technology.
