Stephen M. Phillips P.E., Ph.D. (Stanford 1988)
Biographical SketchStephen M. Phillips received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University in 1984 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1985 and 1988, respectively. He joined the faculty of Case Western Reserve University in 1988 as an assistant professor. He has held appointments in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics and the Department of Systems, Control and Industrial Engineering. He is currently Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Arizona State University and holds an adjunct appointment at CWRU.
Professor Phillips has served as director of the Center for Automation and Intelligent System Research, as a faculty fellow at the NASA Lewis (now Glen) research center. His research spans a variety of interests in the broad fields of microsystems, control systems and system identification. Particular applications have included microelectromechanical systems, micrfofluidics, biologic microsystems, adaptive control, integrated flight/propulsion control, adaptive seals for gas-turbine engines, and feedback control over nondeterminisitc networks, He has participated in research programs funded by DARPA, NSF, NASA, The U.S. Army, CAMP (formerly the Cleveland Advanced Manufacturing Program), The Ohio Aerospace Institute, The Engineering Foundation, and several Corporations.
