Single Address Space Operating Systems
We are currently researching Single Address Space Operating Systems (SASOSs) in the Computer Science and Engineering Department at Arizona State University. Single Address Space Operating Systems take advantage of the 64 bit CPUs which have appeared in the last decade. Our particular interest is to simplify operating system design and return to a basic computational paradigm which uses a single virtual address space distributed over a network. There are considerable advantages that can be read about in . The Major goals of the Sombrero project are to reduce the complexity of application and operating system software and secondly to improve performance. The Sombrero Publications and Presentations listed on the Sombrero project web page present our design, the Sombrero Operating System and its associated protection hardware support. Please leave messages for us at: SASOS@www.eas.asu.edu.
