Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society, was founded at Lehigh University in 1885 to recognize the outstanding achievements of students in the engineering field and "foster a spirit of liberal culture in engineering colleges." Tau Beta Pi believes that technical knowledge alone is not enough preparation for an engineer in our complex world. A liberal education creates an awareness of history and future potential and prepares engineers to be responsive to others and to be helpfully active in their communities.

The Arizona Beta Chapter, established March 9, 1963, has its office in Engineering Center G-Wing (ECG) Room 320 at Arizona State University and is an organization of the ASU College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
